Text Messaging Service May Die Out Soon!

With the emergence of other instant messaging services now available on smartphones and tablets, the Short Messaging Service (SMS) may well be on its way to fading off the scene.

Research In Motion's BlackBerry Messenger smartphone app, often cited as the leading communication method, is one example of the SMS-killing service. So also, other messaging apps like Whatsapp, Kik, and Apple's upcoming iMessage for iOS, are growing almost daily.

With Facebook Messenger you can broadcast messages to a group of people at once; a feature the company said can help organize activities and socializing on the go. One factor that makes these new messaging platforms incredibly appealing to consumers is that for little or nothing and a data connection, these apps provide practically free communication compared the huge costs of SMS service.

With this tilt in loyalty, there is a huge opportunity for an innovation that will bridge this divide, and this is a challenge that has been duly accepted by communication apps that have emerged over time.
