Over time we have become so conditioned to go through a few clicks before being assured we are disconnecting our USB devices safely.
Theoretically, this process is necessary to ensure that Windows is not busy reading or writing onto the device before disconnecting it, which can result in data loss or, in some cases, damage to the device!
But you can avoid these extra clicks by following these procedures:
- Plug in the USB device into the PC and navigate to Device Manager (Start > Control Panel > Device Manager).
- Expand (click on the + button) the entry for Disk Drives, and find your removable device in the list.
- Right-click on it and click Properties
- Click the Policies tab: you should see something like this (not necessarily the HUAWEI MMC Storage USB Device pictured below.. lol):
- If the first option, Optimize for quick removal, is selected, you are good to go. If Optimize for better performance is selected, switch to Optimize for quick removal and click OK. Done! You can now unplug that USB Drive without Safe removal .
