The Federal Bureau of Intelligence (FBI) is pushing for a law that will make them wiretap into social networking sites as well as other peer-to-peer services.
There has been the 1994's Communications Assistance to Law Enforcement Act (CALEA) that gives the law enforcement agency a direct back-door access to users' data during warranted investigations just as they began with carriers in 1994 and expanded to broadband providers in 2004.
Now, they want internet companies like Google, Yahoo, Facebook, Microsoft, and Twitter to give in to the demands of the CALEA (like they don't have the access already..lol). Instant messaging services like Apple iChat, AOL Instant Messanger, Gmail Chat are also extended the handshake.
So, this is coming as a stern warning to all those that have already rented apartments on Facebook and the like to think deeply about what they share on these sites... But seriously, it is high time everyone is held responsible for the content we share. Maybe y'all should stop 'bugaring' us online about some little change you made in a (*coughs*). Please tweet wisely and facebook responsibly!
