The BlackBerry Empathy.

Even reviewing the concept behind the design of this “crazy” phone gives me goose pimples. Gone are those days when we connect with contacts stored on our phones via calls and text messages: it is about time we started sharing the moods of our friends and relatives via the Blackberry Empathy.

The concept device was designed by Kiki Tang and Daniel Yoon for a RIM sponsored project at the Art Center College of Design.

The phone is technology personified. So please, if you don’t want your girlfriend to know that you are “kerkering” inside your hot pit toilet after eating akpu at Mama Nkechi’s canteen, then please don’t lie that you are having lunch in Sweet Sensation! Each time you share through social networking, your messages are loaded with information like your blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, etc. (via a biometric mood ring) that totally paint your mood status to your friends and relatives.

On one part I feel this is pretty cool because it’s gonna give you a firsthand assessment of your pals and thereby save you the embarrassment of saying things that trip them off! But on the other hand, I believe technology shouldn’t just throw me open just because I wanna connect with my friends!

This is some hush, hush concept for now and whether we’ve got the kind of technology that can handle this design for this present time… only time will tell!

So, all ye pingers and pangers, keep your fingers crossed…
